Biography

Nuha Eltinay is a PhD Researcher at London South Bank University, Licentiate MRTPI and MA holder of Urban Planning studies from the University of Westminster, working towards the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the Arab Region. Appointed as the Director of Urban Planning and Sustainable Development at the Arab Urban Development Institute (AUDI) in 2014, Nuha works closely with the World Bank, UNISDR, UNHABITAT and the UNDP offices for the Arab States on applying Urban Resilience Assessment for pre-and-post disaster situations in the Arab region. At the scientific level, Nuha published and contributed to several research papers and UN Report, with focus on building coherence between the 2015-2030 UN Global Agendas for Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change and the Sustainable Development Goals. At the operational level, one of Nuha's 2017 recent achievements was the implementation of the UNISDR City-to-City Exchange Program in Khartoum (Sudan) and Amman (Jordan). Targeting the region's urban challenges against the refugees crisis, and understanding the underlying drivers of disaster risk vulnerability, Nuha is currently engaged in upscaling this Resilience Assessment for 25 cities in the Arab Region, to help governance systems build Sustainable Resilience Action Plans and innovative planning strategies for Smart Cities climate change solutions.
